Silver fell more than three times as fast as gold on Thursday. The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) evening fix for 24-carat (999) gold on 22 October 2026 is ₹1,42,694 per 10 grams, down ₹1,411 (0.98%) from Wednesday evening. Rates exclude 3% GST and making charges. Gold also slid within the day: the PM fix was ₹458 below the morning one, and silver lost ₹971 a kg between fixes.

Retail vs IBJA

- 22K: ₹1,32,350 retail vs ₹1,30,708 at IBJA, a gap of ₹1,642 (1.26%).
- Silver: ₹2,25,000 retail vs ₹1,99,777 at IBJA, a gap of ₹25,223 a kg (12.63%).
The silver gap is unusually wide. Part of it is normal dealer margin on small quantities, and part is lag: retail quotes often trail a sharp fall in the benchmark. Ask silver dealers which rate they use.

Gold-silver ratio jumps
One gram of 24K gold now buys about 71.4 grams of silver at the PM fixes, up from 69.7 on Wednesday. The ratio is not a buy signal.
Why prices fell
Domestic prices follow world prices and the rupee. Equity markets on Thursday were weighed down by crude oil above $110 a barrel and caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s coming policy decision, according to news reports. Higher expected rates weigh on gold, which pays no interest; silver usually swings harder. We do not forecast prices.

RBI said today that Sovereign Gold Bond 2018-19 Series-II will be redeemed on 23 October at ₹14,425 per unit, the simple average of IBJA’s 999 closing prices on 19, 21 and 22 October. Today’s IBJA fix is one of those three days.
