Several reports put the split at 50% for qualified institutional buyers, 15% for non-institutional investors and 35% for retail investors, with allotment expected on 26 October and listing on 28 October. We have not verified these from the full RHP’s issue structure section, so treat them as indicative.

How much money you need

Bid Shares Amount at ₹1,065 Amount at ₹1,119
1 lot 12 ₹12,780 ₹13,428
5 lots 60 ₹63,900 ₹67,140
14 lots (retail maximum at cap) 168 ₹1,78,920 ₹1,87,992

Our calculations. Retail individual investors can bid up to ₹2 lakh in an IPO. At the cap price, 14 lots is the most that fits under that limit; 15 lots would cost ₹2,01,420. If you bid at the “cut-off” price, the bank blocks money at the upper end of the band.

The RIL shareholder quota: who qualifies

Reliance’s filing says the shareholder reservation is for “Eligible RIL Shareholders”, meaning individuals and HUFs who are public equity shareholders of Reliance Industries as on the date the RHP was filed, that is, 14 October 2026.

  • If you held RIL shares in your demat account on 14 October, you should be eligible, subject to the RHP’s exclusions.
  • If you bought RIL shares on 14 October or later, they would not have been in your demat on 14 October because of T+1 settlement, as reports have pointed out. You are not eligible for this quota.
  • Buying RIL shares now does not help for this IPO.

Read the RHP’s “Issue Procedure” section for whether an eligible shareholder can also bid in the retail category, and for the bid limit in the shareholder portion. Rules on bidding in more than one category matter, because a wrong bid can be rejected.

What the money will be used for

All the money from the fresh issue goes to the company, not to selling shareholders. The net proceeds will be used to prepay, fully or partly, certain borrowings of its material subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL), and for general corporate purposes, the RHP says.

Jio Platforms financials at a glance

Item Fiscal 2026 Three months to June 2026
Revenue from operations ₹1,46,885 crore ₹39,173 crore
EBITDA ₹76,255 crore ₹20,865 crore
EBITDA margin 51.91% 53.26%
Profit after tax ₹30,049 crore ₹7,764 crore
Diluted EPS ₹33.59 ₹8.68 (not annualised)
Total borrowings (period end) ₹70,781 crore ₹61,372 crore

Source: RHP abridged prospectus (restated consolidated figures, converted from ₹ million by us). The RHP says revenue and EBITDA grew at compound annual rates of 15.79% and 17.79% between fiscal 2024 and fiscal 2026.

Valuation, roughly: on fiscal 2026 diluted EPS of ₹33.59, the price band works out to a price-earnings multiple of about 31.7 to 33.3 times, by our calculation. This uses pre-issue earnings per share; the fresh shares will spread profit over more shares, so the post-issue multiple will be somewhat higher. Compare with listed telecom peers in the RHP’s “Basis for Issue Price” section.

Risks the prospectus flags

The RHP’s cover page carries the standard warning: investors should not invest “unless they can afford to take the risk of losing their entire investment”, and the issue price “should not be considered to be indicative of the market price” after listing. It also lists related-party arrangements with Reliance group companies. Read the “Risk Factors” section, which starts on page 30 of the RHP, before you bid.

How to apply

  1. Through your bank (ASBA): use net banking’s IPO section. The amount is blocked, not debited, until allotment.
  2. Through a broker app using UPI: enter your bid, then approve the UPI mandate in your UPI app before 7 PM on 23 October.
  3. Choose the right category: retail, RIL shareholder or employee, as applicable.
  4. Check allotment on KFin Technologies’ site or the exchange websites once the basis of allotment is finalised.
  5. If not allotted, the blocked amount is released. If it is not, contact your bank; our failed UPI refund guide explains escalation for UPI issues.

Should you apply?

That depends on your goals, not on the buzz. A large, well-known company does not make an IPO a sure gain; listing-day prices can fall below the issue price. If you invest regularly through SIPs, there is no need to pause them to fund an IPO bid; see should you stop your SIP. Keep any IPO bid to money you will not need soon, and do not borrow to apply.
