Best Credit Card for Online Shopping in 2026: Cashback on Amazon, Flipkart and Swiggy Compared
Two colleagues in Bengaluru spend about the same every month: around ₹12,000 online across Amazon, Flipkart and a few other sites, and another ₹8,000 in shops. One earns roughly ₹440 a month back on her card. The other earns ₹680 on his. The difference is the card, and in a festive month, when that ₹12,000 can double, the gap grows with it.
There is no single best credit card for online shopping for everyone. The right card depends on where you shop, how much, and whether the cashback is capped. This guide compares six popular cashback cards using the features printed on each issuer’s own page in October 2026, after a year in which several issuers trimmed benefits, as Mint has reported. Card terms change often, so treat every figure here as a snapshot and check the issuer’s page on the day you apply.

Fees exclude GST. Renewal fee waivers are covered card by card below.
Amazon Pay ICICI Bank: unlimited cashback on Amazon
According to ICICI Bank’s card page, the card has no joining or annual fee and pays unlimited rewards of 5% on Amazon.in for Prime members and 3% for others, plus 1% on spends outside Amazon. Rewards land as Amazon Pay balance and do not expire. ICICI also lists a 1.99% forex mark-up, a 1% fuel surcharge waiver and three months of no cost EMI on eligible Amazon transactions. Its FAQ calls the card an invite-only programme, so you may need to apply through the Amazon app.
The catch is that the balance is only useful if you buy on Amazon. For someone who already does most of their shopping there, the lack of any cap or fee makes it the best credit card for online shopping on Amazon, and a simple pick. During the Amazon Great Indian Festival, it competes with SBI’s 10% instant discount; our Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026 guide shows when each wins.
Flipkart Axis Bank: higher rates, quarterly caps
Axis Bank’s page lists 7.5% cashback on Myntra and 5% on Flipkart and Cleartrip, each capped at ₹4,000 per statement quarter per merchant, 4% unlimited on a list of preferred merchants, and 1% unlimited on other eligible spends. Cashback is credited to the statement. The joining fee is nil as a limited-period offer; from the second year the annual fee is ₹500, waived on annual spends above ₹3.5 lakh, with rent and wallet loads not counted towards the waiver.
Axis updated the card’s terms from 28 August 2026, and the page carries a note saying so. The quarterly cap is generous for most people: you would need ₹80,000 of Flipkart spending in a quarter to hit ₹4,000 at 5%. During Big Billion Days the card is also listed with a separate 10% discount, covered in our post on Big Billion Days 2026 bank offers.
Is the Cashback SBI Card still worth it after the April cut?
For many online shoppers, yes, though it is less generous than it was. Among cards that pay the same rate on almost any website, it is still the closest thing to a best credit card for online shopping in general. From 1 April 2026, SBI Card’s revision notice caps cashback at ₹2,000 a statement cycle on online spends at 5% and ₹2,000 on offline spends at 1%, for a total of ₹4,000. It also added digital gaming platforms, tolls and government payments to the exclusions. Cashback was already excluded on merchant EMI and Flexipay EMI, utilities, insurance, fuel, rent, wallets, education, jewellery and railways.
The ₹2,000 online cap works out to ₹40,000 of eligible online spending a cycle, so most shoppers will not hit it outside a big festive month. SBI Card’s key fact statement for August 2026 lists a ₹999 joining fee and ₹999 renewal fee, waived on annual spends of ₹2 lakh or more.
One thing to know before the festive sales: in SBI Card’s terms for Amazon’s Prime Day in July, the Cashback SBI Card was among the cards excluded from the 10% instant discount. If the festival terms repeat that, a different SBI card would be needed for Amazon’s offer.
HDFC Bank Millennia and Swiggy HDFC Bank
HDFC Bank’s Millennia page lists 5% cashback on ten brands including Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy and Zomato, and 1% on other spends. Cashback comes as reward points you redeem against the statement balance, and that redemption is capped at 3,000 points a calendar month. The fee is ₹1,000 plus taxes, waived if you spend ₹1 lakh or more in the year before renewal. Spending ₹1 lakh in a calendar quarter also earns a ₹1,000 voucher or one domestic lounge visit.
The Swiggy HDFC Bank card pays 10% on Swiggy food, Instamart, Dineout and Genie, 5% on online spends across a range of apps and websites, and 1% on other categories up to ₹500 a cycle. Fuel, rent, EMI, wallet, jewellery and government payments earn nothing. The fee is ₹500, waived on ₹2 lakh of annual spending. HDFC says it has begun moving existing cardholders to Swiggy Ornge or Swiggy BLCK variants, so benefits for older cards may change. HDFC’s page did not show the caps on the 10% and 5% categories when we checked; ask for the card’s terms document before you count on them.
Airtel Axis Bank
This one is about bills more than shopping. Axis lists 25% cashback on Airtel mobile, broadband, Wi-Fi and DTH bills paid through the Airtel Thanks app, capped each month at twice the base cashback earned, and 10% on utility bills paid there. It also lists 10% value back on Zomato, Blinkit and District Movies up to ₹200 per partner a month, and 1% on everything else. The joining fee is ₹500, the same as the annual fee from year two, waived on annual spends above ₹2 lakh.
Which cashback credit card fits your spending?
Here is how four cards compare for the colleagues in the opening example, who spend ₹6,000 on Amazon, ₹4,000 on Flipkart, ₹2,000 on other websites and ₹8,000 offline each month, or ₹2.4 lakh a year. Swiggy HDFC and Airtel Axis are left out because their value depends on Swiggy and Airtel spending.
| Card | Cashback a month | A year | Annual fee at ₹2.4 lakh spend |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cashback SBI Card | ₹680 | ₹8,160 | Waived from year 2 (₹2 lakh threshold met) |
| HDFC Bank Millennia | ₹600 | ₹7,200 | Waived (₹1 lakh threshold met) |
| Amazon Pay ICICI Bank (Prime) | ₹440 | ₹5,280 | None |
| Flipkart Axis Bank | ₹360 | ₹4,320 | ₹500 + GST from year 2 (below ₹3.5 lakh) |
Our calculation assumes every purchase qualifies and no caps are hit. A Myntra-heavy shopper would rank the Flipkart Axis card far higher, and a non-Prime Amazon shopper would earn ₹320 a month on the ICICI card instead of ₹440. The first year also costs more on SBI and HDFC because of the joining fee. A cashback credit card earns most when your spending matches its partner list, which is why many heavy online shoppers carry one co-branded card and one general card.
Holding more than one card has costs too, from fees to the temptation to spend more. We discuss it in the pros and cons of having more than one credit card. If your income or credit history makes approval hard, an FD-backed SBI credit card is one way in.
The fine print that eats cashback
Even the best credit card for online shopping loses value if you ignore its exclusions.
Category exclusions catch people most: Rent, wallet loads, fuel, insurance and EMI transactions earn little or nothing on most of these cards. Converting a purchase to EMI can switch off the cashback entirely on the Cashback SBI Card. Festive bank discounts and card cashback do not always stack either; SBI Card’s July sale terms allowed reward points to be forfeited on discounted non-EMI transactions.
Fees can shift as well. The annual fee on several of these cards is waived only when you cross a spending threshold, and spends such as rent may not count. If a card stops earning for you, close it properly; our guide on how to close a credit card covers RBI’s seven-day rule.
FAQ: best credit card for online shopping
Which is the best credit card for online shopping on Amazon?
For regular Amazon shoppers with Prime, the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank card, with unlimited 5% and no fees. During the Amazon festival sale, an eligible SBI card can save more on single orders below the discount cap.
Is a lifetime-free card better than a paid one?
Depends on your spending. The Cashback SBI Card charges ₹999 but waives renewal at ₹2 lakh a year, and it out-earned the free ICICI card in our example.
Do I get cashback on EMI purchases?
Often not. SBI excludes merchant EMI on its Cashback card, and Swiggy HDFC lists EMI among the exclusions for its 1% category.
Should I apply for a new card just for the festive sale?
Probably not this close to the sale. A new application adds a hard enquiry to your credit report, and approval and delivery take time.
Disclaimer: Card features and fees are taken from issuer pages and documents on 3 October 2026 and exclude GST; issuers change benefits often, so the issuer’s current terms apply. The spending example is our own illustration.
