How we checked the date: IBJA’s live table carries no date. But its dated “previous dates” archive now ends at 14/10/2026, and those 14 October rows match exactly what the live table showed on Wednesday evening. The new live figures are therefore Thursday’s.
Within the day, prices recovered a little: 24K rose ₹378 from the AM to the PM session, and silver gained ₹1,177.

Silver retail: GoodReturns lists ₹2,30,000 a kg (₹230 a gram) for Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune and Ahmedabad, and ₹2,40,000 a kg for Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala. That is ₹5,000 lower than Wednesday’s listing.
Retail vs IBJA: the gap
| Item | IBJA PM | Mumbai retail (GoodReturns) | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24K, per 10g | ₹1,45,942 | ₹1,47,440 | ₹1,498 (1.03%) |
| 22K, per 10g | ₹1,33,683 | ₹1,35,150 | ₹1,467 (1.10%) |
| Silver, per kg | ₹2,08,275 | ₹2,30,000 | ₹21,725 (10.43%) |
Our calculations. IBJA’s fix is a benchmark for the bullion trade; shops add their own costs and margins. The silver gap is unusually wide, partly because retail silver quotes move in round ₹5,000 steps and were not cut as much as IBJA’s rate today.
All IBJA purities, PM session
| Purity | Common name | PM fix (₹/10g) |
|---|---|---|

Platinum 999 closed at ₹57,649 per 10 grams. Use the row that matches the purity stamped on your jewellery when you sell or exchange it.
What the numbers mean if you are buying
- Work out the full bill. At Mumbai’s 22K rate, 10 grams cost ₹1,35,150. With 10% making charges, that is ₹1,48,665; applying 3% GST on the whole amount takes it to about ₹1,53,125. Making charges and how GST is applied vary by jeweller, so ask for an itemised estimate.
- Check the HUID. Hallmarked jewellery carries a six-character HUID; 22K is marked 916.
- Silver buyers, compare. With retail silver about 10% above IBJA, a few phone calls to different shops can save real money on large purchases.
- Prices move both ways. Gold fell more than ₹3,400 per 10 grams in five sessions. Spreading festival purchases over a few days may suit some families, but no one can time the bottom.

Silver is falling faster than gold
One way to see this week’s move is the gold-silver ratio: how many grams of silver one gram of gold buys. On IBJA’s PM rates, it was about 67.6 last Friday (₹14,943 a gram of 24K against ₹221.11 a gram of silver). Today it is about 70.1 (₹14,594.20 against ₹208.28). A rising ratio means silver has fallen more than gold. Silver tends to swing more than gold in both directions, so it suits buyers who can live with sharper price moves.
Selling or exchanging old gold today
- Know the purity. Check the hallmark. A 22K piece should be valued against the 916 row, not the 24K rate.
- Ask for the deduction in writing. Jewellers usually deduct a percentage for melting loss or impurities. Ask what it is before you agree.
- Compare buyback and exchange. Many shops offer a better rate if you exchange old gold for new jewellery than if you take cash.
- Keep the bill. The original purchase bill helps prove ownership and the cost price for capital gains tax.
Gold imports fell sharply in September
Commerce Ministry data released today show India’s gold imports fell 81.27% in September from a year earlier, and silver imports fell 49.11%. High prices tend to dampen import demand. The full trade numbers are in today’s separate trade deficit report.
